Activity: The Hitching Post is a delightful local restaurant that you don’t want to miss. They serve lunch and dinner and brunch on Sundays. They have a retail section on one side of the building that features their own cheeses along with other fun local products with everything from jam and honey to goat milk soap and artisan chocolate.

On the other side of the building is their restaurant tavern. They use local ingredients and a lot of their dishes feature their award winning house made cheeses. They have great cheese boards and a lighter bite section with salads, soups and sandwiches. They have a heartier bite section of the menu with starters like poutine and nachos to main course meals ranging from burgers to chicken pot pie to ribs or salmon. They have a kids section menu, desserts and U.S. beer and wine pairings to recommend.

Reflections:

We have experienced the Hitching Post in many different ways and enjoyed them all. We have ordered takeout and picked it up on our first day of arriving so we can relax and eat in after a long day of driving. When we do this we typically order a few different items and eat them family style. Poutine, Mac & Cheese and the Chicken Pot Pie were all favorites from 10 year olds up to adults.

But our favorite way is to eat in. It has such a charming ambiance that it is fun to be there in person. They bring out cheese for you to taste while looking over the menu. There have been no misses here yet from salads to sandwiches to a trio soup platter or pork sliders - we recommend it all!

Make sure and check their hours before you go. They are generally closed Monday - Wednesday and, depending on the time of year, sometimes Thursdays. We haven’t tried their brunch but it comes highly recommended. And they have outdoor seating where you can bring your dog and order a special pup treat for them as well.
